State of Self
Welcome
About State of Self
SOS. Three letters that mean more than one thing. It's shorthand for who we are — State of Self. It's a call to the soul, to the Atman, to the truest version of you. And for many of us, it's exactly what brought us to yoga in the first place. However you arrived here, you're in the right place.
Who we are
State of Self is dedicated to providing transformative yoga and mindfulness experiences in an intimate, welcoming space.
"Whatever brings you to the mat — whether it’s improving mobility, finding relief from stress, supporting your mental health, or simply carving out time for yourself — we are here to meet you where you are and support you every step of the way."
Our Space
Classes at State of Self are intentionally limited to 12 students, creating an intimate environment where real connection happens. Small class sizes allow for a personalised approach, hands-on guidance, and tailored cues that meet each student exactly where they are — whether you're a complete beginner or a seasoned practitioner. When a teacher truly sees you, your practice will evolve.
Coming Home
The most revered spiritual teachers throughout time have pointed to the same truth — that the purpose of this life is to find our way back home.
We're here with you "for the journey of the self, through the self, to the Self."
- The Bhagavad Gita

Class styles
State of Self offers 3 different class styles.

Vinyasa
Energising. Empowering. Explorative.
An energising class suitable for practioners with some experience of the practice.
This class will have you moving with fluidity from one shape to the next with breath awarenss.

Yin
Contemplative. Meditative. Reflective.
The antithesis to your Vinyasa class, Yin is a practice of stillness. This class is suitable for beginners to advanced practitioners.
This class will have you holding postures for long durations of time to lengthen and mobilsie the fasical network, building flexibility and resiliancy.
Think of this class as a place to find a moment of stillness in a busy world.

Slow flow
Focused. Spacious. Calming.
This is the best of both worlds.
This class will move at a slower pace and is great for beginners through to advanced. New practitioners will have more time to feel their way into postures.
Think of this class as the one you go to when you want to move a little but not exert too much energy.
There will be space and time in postures for you to find your alingment, feel a deep sense of spaciousness and soothe your nervous system.

Jess Wong Owner & Founder
Jess is a movement specialist with over two decades of experience spanning professional performance, dance education, and yoga facilitation.Trained at the Victorian College of the Arts in Melbourne Australia, Jess has performed with some of Australia’s most respected contemporary dance companies and brings a deep understanding of the body and how it moves to everything she teaches.
For the past 11 years, Jess has worked as a qualified yoga teacher across a remarkably diverse range of settings — from public studio classes, corporate environments, and celebrity clientele, to university students, school children, and highly specialized therapeutic work with people with disabilities, pre-natal clients, and those navigating mental health challenges. Her approach draws on somatic movement principles, anatomy, and a lifetime of embodied practice to meet each student exactly where they are.
Jess's teaching is grounded in genuine curiosity, warmth, and a belief that mindful movement has the power to transform not just the body, but the way we show up in the world. When she’s not on the mat, Jess is kept wonderfully busy by her four-year-old daughter — her greatest teacher and the ultimate test of putting her practice into action in real life.
